From the Sydney Morning Herald June 14th came details of some research…which you can see more fully reported elsewhere. It says that exemplary teachers:
‘..saw no limits to what (students) could learn or how much they could achieve, and believed teaching was most effective when it related to students’ interests and experiences.’
Doing this is wonderful and I love it that there are teachers who do this. What is kind of odd and a tad disturbing is that somehow it is newsworthy. Does it not happen very often? And is it actually remarkable that teaching is most effective when related to students’ ‘interests and experiences?’ What other sort of teaching would we possibly do other than that?
