More sex, but not safer sex

The Sydney Morning Herald of 6th October 2010 reported a a study to be published in The Australian and New Zealand Journal of Public Health. The article quotes the study as stating:

‘La Trobe University researchers surveyed high school students aged 13 to 18 years between 1997 and 2008.

Between 1999 and 2008, the proportion of students reporting they had ever had sexual intercourse rose from 35 to 40per cent. Most of the students had only had sex with one person but in 2008, 17 per cent reported having had at least four partners over the preceding 12 months.

Condom use had not increased since 1997, with 51 per cent of respondents in 2008 reporting they always used condoms.’

This is not really good is it…
