QUESTIONS OF CHOICE – A DVD about group work with young people

‘QUESTIONS’ just has so many wonderful moments. It’s an hour long and shows real footage from groups run both in and out of schools. It’s been described as ‘very interactive, creative and entertaining!’ And I must say, even though it was made a few years back and the hair styles and high-waisted pants are now a bit old school, there is just some terrific stuff here that’s fun, moving and timeless.  The approach shown is based on a framework of five ideas:

  1. To engage: Catching the group’s attention in a meaningful and relevant way
  2. To invite responses: Doing ‘something’ so that people are able to respond. Because it’s not automatically the case they will immediately know what they think and feel
  3. To explore responses: Once you have responses you can explore them, ask questions, find out more; add to the thinking and feeling about a topic
  4. To promote a capacity to be different: This means thoughtful choice; it means people being able to take a different path when and if, this would be useful
  5. To close: This means making sure that for those who are still struggling with their questions, there is a way for them to complete this process if they want to.

Even with the BIG hair and the high-waisted trousers, I still think QUESTIONS is terrific.
