Storytelling

Brian Boyd has written a book about storytelling, ‘On the Origin of Stories:Evolution, cognition and fiction’. Yeah, this is a pretty flash title and I have yet to read the book in any depth but it says some interesting things. Boyd says that fiction can improve cognition, cooperation and creativity. It’s not just about telling stories of the imagination and passing pleasant hours of the day, although I gota say I think this is reason enough; it’s about developing those aspects of humans that are generally thought of as being the business of the more ‘serious’ subjects. Storytelling and theatre have always been wonderful tools in the education and development of us humans. I shall read more and let you know.
