Read the research. Over and over in different places and at different times, and in different language, we find that as humans, we need to fit, to belong, to be connected, to be part of something. And if research is not where you would normally look for inspiration, take a look at your neighbourhood. Is it a place you want to be? A place you feel welcome? A place you feel part of?
And what is it that we find ‘motivating?’ (Funny word that…’motivating’. Always sounds a bit like someone selling me something…stilll…)…but what helps us do our best, be successful as humans, flourish, possibly even revel in life? The details vary, but it does need to be something meaningful. At times fun and entertaining yes…
but also something which stretches us (also the thing which has recently been identified as super useful for keeping our brains alive and well)…er where was I? Oh! We need to be supported, and at times we do need comfort;
AND we also need to be challenged, whether that’s physically, emotionally, intellectually or spiritually.
The Beyond Empathy camp at Wauchope did a pretty good job of all this I think. I am pleased I was there. And just in case you can’t open the vid below, I have included a couple of pictures.
